Cat Burglars

“Our whiskered furless servant Ooo”, mused Patricia, “is always accusing us of being cat burglars. Why is that?” she asked her siblings.”

“Well,” announced the intellectually gifted as well as ruggedly handsome Lamont, “According to Dictionary.com a cat burglar is, ‘a burglar who breaks into buildings by climbing through upstairs windows, across roofs, etc., especially with great stealth and agility.’ The term came into being about 1905 to 1910.”

“Good grief,” Pawline muttered, “what on earth does that have to do with us?” It sounds much more like that wonderful movie of Alfred Hitchcock’s we watched the other night with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, ‘To Catch a Thief.’ Now Carey Grant is fine looking furless fella, but in no way does he look like a cat. Sometimes I wonder about this furless ones thinking ability.”

“Oooo,” purred Patch, “Carey Grant, “I’d like to snuggle up with him and let him pet me. I think that would be very nice. I bet he just loves cats. However, my question still stands, why does Oooo call us cat burglars and cat thieves? It doesn’t seem very nice.”

“What type of geniuses are you felines,” said Paw rolling on her back and licking her paws, “It is perfectly obvious what he means, We, particularly Lamont, kept stealing his pens, pencils, flashdrives, nails, screws, tools, and anything else we can get our paws on and hide them. We stand justly accused. We are indeed cat burglars.”

“You do make a valid point sister,” said Lamont. “But it is so much fun, especially when we, well mainly me, do it right under his nose while he is trying to type on his computer. It’s our nature and he should know it. If fact, I don’t think he really gets mad about it. It is just a good grump for him. He likes to grump from time to time as you may have noticed.”

“I suppose you’re likely right, again,” meowed Patch. I do like to steal his stuff.

“Okay, but then what does ‘cat around’ mean, or ‘a cat in gloves catches no mice’, or ‘cat got your tongue mean?’” she continued.

At this point Pawline and Lamont crossed the eyes rolled over and took a catnap.

“And why is called a catnap?” mused Patch to herself.
