Republican Budget Blueprint Released

Thom Hartman reported on the Republican (read Paul Ryan) budget proposals the 21st of this month. He says, “and if they succeed, the 99% of us are condemned to life like serfs.

Ryan’s budget would make massive cuts to food stamps, student loans, Medicaid, and Social Security. It would also move Medicare to a voucher programs which is not exactly good news for seniors have to deal with insurance companies. It would also give huge tax breaks to multimillionaires like Ryan lowering the top tax rate from 35% to 25% or $3 trillion in tax breaks to the wealthy.

Ryan says it is up to the people to decide about his budget. Are you kidding, if that were true all the lobbyists and PAC money would have to disappear.

Later in his article Hartman says that Germany is eating our lunch when it comes to renewable energy.” The will likely invest $260 billion, 8% of the GDP into renewable energy as they seek to end their nuclear program. Time for the U.S. to wake up and smell the coffee.

  1. The voucher idea actually means less serfdom. As it is is now, the feudal lords (government) make all the decisions. The voucher system would give the "serfs" (welfare recipients) a lot more power.

  2. In the words of John McEnroe, "You can't be serious!" It would seem that the power would go to the insurance companies which have a less the stellar reputation for moral turpitude.

Do you really believe government = evil? The type of government should be the issue.

  3. No, the insurance companies would have little power, as they would be beholden to the seniors/etc with the vouchers.

As for the government, it is not evil. But its power to control our private lives should be limited. That's why we have a Bill of Rights.

It is less a problem of the "type of govenment" (though that is often important). It has to do with the nature of government itself. Just because a government is democratic is no good reason to turn more and more power over to it.

....so we give the government the power to issue vouchers?
..no difference, except the vouchers would be insufficient, from my take on Ryan's overhaul concept.
