Legacy to Our Children and Becoming More Informed About Fracking

Folk talk about the legacy they want to leave for future generations. I sometimes wonder how serious that discussion is. One of the big points some make is the national debt and the need for a balanced budget. All this tells me is that they don’t understand economics very well. Most economists see the role of government in overspending at sometimes to stimulate the economy and reducing debt at other times to slow the economy. Politicians are reluctant to do the later because their constituents like low taxes even if the make the country suffer and further the burden on future generations. Thus this concern is basically a myth.

We also talk about energy for the future and the futurists of the past said the oil would be the big international issue and it was. Thus all our mucking about in the Middle East, has been basically about oil. We also continue to subsidize fossil fuel producers in this country rather than investing significantly in alternate energy sources as we find in Europe. Just compare our gas prices with those in Europe to see how we hide this problem in order to cater to oil industry lobby groups. Another myth.

Modern futurists now are talking about the next great issue the world will face is water, or the lack of water. But you hear very little about that in the media or congress. [You can check the site for future water concerns.]

What we do here about is a mix of the last to major issues oil and water and the great solution of fracking. Oil interest groups tells of our vast reserves of natural gas that is there just for the taking that will solve our energy needs in this country for generations. Sixty percent of our natural gas now comes from these fracking efforts. And, perhaps this is the greatest myth of all or just a down right lie of short sighted, get the buck now groups who don’t give a hoot about future generations.

A lot of folk don’t have a clue as to what fracking is. Here is a short explanation. You pump millions of gallons of pressurized water and sand and some chemicals into holes bored into the ground and then bent 90 degrees to areas where oil and natural gas are trapped. They gas is retrieved but the polluted water and some of the chemicals are put back into the ground where folk hope they will stay put. But we know they don’t and don’t have a clue as to what they are going to do to the future water supply. What is clear is the millions of gallons of water are being removed from our water supplies and loss forever, and like causing other problems as well.

If you go to this video  and I hope you will, you will find a much better and clearer picture of how fracking works and it impact of future water supplies. This is but one of many pieces of research that show the dangers of fracking despite what the investors in the process might lead you to believe.

There you have it. Truly water and oil do not mix or work. The long range issues of fracking spell big trouble for future generations, let alone the local annoyances we have in areas were the fracking sand is mined and the trucks thundering by, etc.

If you truly are concerned about the legacy we give our children you will work against fracking and its negative impact upon them. Then work on issues that really will benefit them such has a reasonable health care system they will be have to have and afford.

I should also note that most of Europe has had real reservations about fracking and many countries do not allow it, though some are reconsidering mainly through efforts of big oil companies.
