I get Governor Scot Walker’s newsletter. He continues to paint a
glowing picture of how well we are doing in the state. Remember his pledge to
create 250,000 jobs during the first 4 years of his term. That pledge has
morphed into a promise, a promise that has practically no possibility of being
kept.
I did a little research on job growth among the states. I didn’t
find a comprehensive report but I did find the following:
According
to the Kiplinger Report the top 10 states in job growth 2013: 1. Utah 3%,
43,965*; 2. Nevada 2.7%, 31,050.5; 3. Hawaii 2.7%, 16,200 jobs; 4. South
Carolina 2.5%, 47,300; 5. Colorado 2.5% 56,900 jobs; 6. Idaho 2.4%, 15,000
jobs; 7. Florida 2.4%, 175,985 jobs; 8. Texas 2.3%, 247,850 jobs; 9. North
Carolina 2.1%, 84,740 jobs; 10. Arizona 2.1%, 50,925 jobs.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Wisconsin job-creation
rate ranking jumps to 33rd from 44th in the nation. While
that is good is has come with some great expense. Asking teachers and other
employees how it is going. He loves handing out money to small businesses but
one wonders what type of return we are getting on that investment of our tax
dollars. Plus, not all jobs come from small businesses.
The very right leaning Forbes magazine in June of this year says,
“Economy Kill Scott Walker Takes Wisconsin to 49th in the country.
They see Wisconsin as 1 of 5 states in the union undergoing economic
contraction.
Another site gave the slowest growing states economies: 10. New
Jersey, 9. Indiana, 8. Wisconsin, > Pct. Change in GDP: 25.9%
> Pct. Change in Population: +6%
> Unemployment Rate: 7.3%

Now that the congress has stopped funding the government that
should help, right?
